How do you gauge if a new palliative home care nurse is ready to do a home visit independently? How do you identify the readiness gaps to help prepare him or her? In the inaugural Assisi Hospice Education and Research Festival held on 25 March 2026, our colleagues shared our experience of implementing the Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA) framework in palliative home care nursing. Participants also had the practical opportunity for hands-on learning, working in groups to design EPA-based learning activities.
The Festival brought together close to 80 participants from 25 organisations from the acute hospitals and community care sector for a full day of learning and sharing. In the afternoon, we shifted focus to education and research in community palliative care, exploring how to take the first step, from programme development to conducting meaningful research despite real-world constraints. We also shared insights from our own research journey, including ongoing studies and practical lessons, culminating in a panel discussion on collaboration and future opportunities.
From hands-on group work to rich dialogue, it was a day filled with practical insights and shared purpose.
Participants shared that the EPA segment was most helpful, and valued the practical sharing, hands-on workshop, and real project examples. Majority of the participants indicated that they were open to attending future symposiums and workshops, and expressed strong interest in collaboration for both education and research programmes, especially for EPA-related and palliative care areas. We are grateful for the active involvement of the participants who made this such a vibrant and inspiring space for learning and exchange.
