What keeps a volunteer going, especially when the ones you’re serving often only have a year left? Phoebe grapples with that question as she spends time at Assisi Hospice, and she reckons it never really gets easier.

But perhaps what we regard as a small action of accompaniment or care, makes that bit of difference to the ones that we serve.
