Inpatient Palliative Care
Our inpatient palliative care is available for patients of all ages who need specialist care. Our patient care focuses on managing their symptoms and pain so that they can be as physically comfortable as possible. Our social workers and clinical pastoral care counsellors also offer a support system to help patients and their families to manage their psychosocial and spiritual needs.
We have six wards offering 85 beds in single, double and quad rooms. A Sensory Garden, providing therapeutic respite for patients, is also the landscape for a children’s playground with close proximity to an indoor children’s playroom.
Knowing that interaction with family and loved ones is of key importance, we offer communal dining spaces with kitchen amenities for our patients, enabling them to share a meal with their family.

What does the Assisi inpatient palliative service entail?
Our inpatient service provides 24/7 medical and nursing care, which focuses on managing pain and other symptoms so that patients can be as comfortable as possible. We also provide psychosocial and spiritual care, as well as physical therapy (physiotherapy and occupational therapy) and creative therapy (music and art).

Who are the members of the palliative care team?
We are an interdisciplinary team comprising doctors, nurses, medical social workers/counsellors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, art, music and speech therapists and clinical pastoral care professionals.

How much will it cost?
Inpatient charges are deductible from MediShield Life, Medisave and government subsidy (according to national means testing). In addition, some private insurance may cover inpatient hospice charges (please check with your insurer). If you have any financial concerns, please send us a message and one of our Medical Social Workers would be happy to speak with you.

Can I use Medisave for inpatient hospice stay?
Depending on the complexity of care, patients may use up to $250 or $350 per day from Medisave to pay for their inpatient hospice stay. The Medisave funds can be from the patient’s own account or from accounts of their spouse, children, parents or grandparents. The Medisave account holder will need to provide his/her NRIC number and sign the necessary forms to authorise the use of his/her Medisave funds.

What do visitors need to note?
We welcome and encourage family members and visitors to spend time with their loved ones who are admitted to Assisi Hospice.
Family members and caregivers should observe the following:- Registration at the security counter is required throughout the day.
- Do press the bell at the ward doors for access after 10pm.
- Patients need rest time.

Can I stay overnight with my loved one?
A family member may stay overnight with the patient subject to the organisation’s rules regarding this.

Which patients are suitable for Assisi inpatient palliative service?
Patients with serious illness and limited prognosis is eligible for consideration for admission into Assisi inpatient hospice.
